Academic/Ministry Focus

Word of Life Bible Institute

The first year focused on the content of the Bible. Students went through the Old Testament, all the way through, twice, and the New Testament three times. We created maps of Paul’s missionary journeys and took Theology and Biblical study methods courses. The second year focused on ministry. I was a part of two mission trips to Bermuda (as a camp counselor) and Quebec, Canada (Open-air evangelism). I also joined the open-air evangelism team, where we shared the gospel in Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens, New York. I was the van driver for ministry groups, mainly the basketball team, and I continued to do this as a basketball player. Both 1st and 2nd years consisted of Snow and Summer camp, where I was (at one time or another) a helper for activities, kitchen staff, or camp counselor). As my primary ministry assignment, which each student is assigned (or can ask for), I was kitchen prep for breakfast and dinner at some point three days a week.

Moody Theological Seminary

TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages) was chosen because I wanted to pursue teaching English to the most needy people, which consisted of the largest populated nation with the least number of Christians, Japan. Japan has 127 million people, less than half a percent of whom are Christian. English teaching is the number one job foreigners may earn in Japan. An MA TESOL degree allows me to go anywhere in the world to teach at the college level. I enjoy language, which was another reason for my focus.

“Give ear, O my people, to my law; Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, which we have heard and known. And our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.”

Psalm 78:1-4
